Pathway to Faculty Appointment

Primary Route · Immediate

UGC Professor of Practice

No PhD or NET required
  • Meets UGC's 15+ years "exemplary professional practice" criterion on the basis of 17+ years in Banking Technology, Digital Transformation, and Operations/IT Systems Management.
  • Eligible for Assistant / Associate / Professor of Practice rank, calibrated to years of seniority.
  • Fixed-term appointment (up to 3 years, extendable to 4), engaged by an institution, an industry partner, or on an honorary basis.
  • Registering as an Expert on UGC's national portal (pop.ugc.ac.in) and pursuing direct outreach to institutions in parallel.
Parallel Route · Medium-Term

UGC-NET → PhD → Tenure Track

Building toward permanence
  • Preparing for UGC-NET (Management) — target subject area: Operations / IT & Systems Management.
  • NET score to be used for priority PhD admission, with doctoral research building on the CommDraft project and its AI-adoption research agenda.
  • PhD completion supports eligibility for a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment, complemented by teaching experience gained through the Professor of Practice route.

The two routes are complementary: Professor of Practice supports near-term teaching engagement; UGC-NET and a PhD build toward long-term tenure.

07 — Practitioner Background

Industry Foundation

17+ years leading Business Analysis, Product Ownership, and Agile delivery for core banking, digital onboarding, and CRM transformation programs across HSBC, FIS, Wipro, and LTIMindtree, with global stakeholder exposure across APAC, MENA, UK, and US.

Why This Experience Translates to the Classroom
  • Live case material, not textbook cases. Core banking go-lives, digital onboarding, and CRM transformation programs become real, current case studies for courses in Digital Banking, Operations Management, and IT Systems Management — the exact gap UGC's Professor of Practice scheme was created to close.
  • Mentoring experience transfers directly to academic advising. Structuring 25+ junior analysts from onboarding to delivery-readiness is the same skill as guiding students from coursework to placement-ready capability.
  • Cross-cultural stakeholder management maps to global business pedagogy. Coordinating APAC, MENA, UK & US stakeholders gives first-hand material for teaching international business, cross-cultural negotiation, and global delivery models.
  • Governance frameworks built in industry become teachable frameworks in class. RAID logs, Information Radiators, and Agile ceremonies adopted across 200+ projects are ready-made frameworks for operations and project management coursework.
  • Applied product development (CommDraft) grounds research in practice. Rather than teaching AI-assisted product development in the abstract, it can be taught from a live, self-built product — bridging classroom theory and industry execution.
